Lunch-N-Listen/Chat'nChew...
Thank you for volunteering to share your time with our students. We hope you enjoy yourself!!!
Goal
The goal of Lunch 'n Listen/Chat 'n Chew is to encourage a love of reading for the students, and to expand our students' at-home libraries by offering recommendations for high quality books.
Prior to the session date
• Read your assigned book and the questions beforehand and be prepared to lead the discussion
• Print a copy of the questions for your book and bring them with you to the session
Procedure
• Please arrive prior to your class' scheduled lunchtime (refer to the lunch schedule)
• Those classes with multiple volunteers will need to divide participating students into smaller groups for each volunteer
• You may want to bring a blanket or two for the students to sit on
• Include all students who have read the book in the discussion
• Sessions last for approximately 30 minutes
• Please escort your students to the playground for the remaining 10 minutes of recess
Grades 1 & 2 :
• Read the book out loud to the students and lead the discussion. You may either go through the questions while you read, or ask them after the book is completed.
Grades 3-6 :
• Students are expected to read the book independently prior to each session. If a student admits that he/she has not completed the book, he/she may still join the group, but may not participate in the discussion. Some of the discussion questions require the students to be familiar with the entire book to understand the discussion.
Lunch
• All students will need to bring a cold lunch to eat
• Students will not be allowed to purchase a school lunch to bring back to the room
• Any student without a lunch will have to go to the cafeteria and miss that session (They are welcome to come to the next session as long as they bring their lunch)
• Students are also asked to bring only water to drink. If they have another drink, please do NOT allow them to drink it in the classroom
• Chat 'n' Chew coordinators will be in the wet areas if you need assistance with these matters.
Wrapping up
• Please complete the evaluation with your students before taking them to the playground
• Place the completed evaluation in the designated box in the library on your way out
• Take time to let us know what you think, it helps us plan for each session

1 st /2nd Grade - Lunch - 11:15 - 11:40, Recess - 11:40 - 11:55
3 rd /4 th Grade - Lunch 11:45 - 12:10, Recess - 12:10 - 12:25
5 th /6 th Grade - Lunch 12:15 - 12:40, Recess - 12:40 - 12:55
